As relational beings, relationships are a fundamental part of our existence. The way in which we relate to ourselves and to others has significant impacts on our perception of self, our felt sense of safety in the world and on whether we feel our love and belonging needs are being met.
Our internal relational patterns and systems unconsciously direct our relating behaviours. This in turn impacts our emotional functioning and mental health. Relationship behaviour can be both adaptive and maladaptive and is strongly influenced, not only by our early life experiences, but also by evolutionary factors.
This course is aimed at students and professionals who would like to explore and develop a deeper understanding of how relationships are impacted by mental health concerns, as well as the relational templates t formed in early life, in a supportive and safe environment. The workshop will be part experiential and part theoretical, with plenty of in-class exercises and discussions.
This lively workshop will benefit the student or practitioner by providing an opportunity to reflect on,and develop deeper insight into close relationships and the dynamics that underpin them. This can be for both personal development and client work purposes. The workshop will examine how to recognize unhelpful relationship patterns and what can be done to sustain healthy and nourishing relationships.
We will be looking at how relationship patterns are formed, different relational styles, as well as how to manage conflict and internal scripts through a contemporary lens. This new awareness may be helpful for client work, supervision or personal development purposes.
